The day’s frustrations with disobedient drivers seem to have boiled over for a police officer doing traffic stops on the Sunshine Coast.
A motorbike police officer was seen attempting to pull over cars for random checks on Nicklin Way in Bokarina yesterday, May 20.
In the footage, the officer has thrown a piece of equipment at a car that failed to stop when requested.
The vehicle, a black BMW sedan, ignored all visual instructions, accelerated towards the officer, swerved around him at the last second and continued down the road.
As the car passed, the officer hurled the device he was holding into the side panel and it smashed into pieces.
The footage has gone viral on social media, with users commenting, “great arm” and “officer’s had a rough day”.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said a man was issued three traffic fines following the incident.
She said it happened about 3pm when the police officer was conducting “operational duties” in a school zone.
“A black BMW 528i allegedly drove dangerously in the direction of the officer,” the police spokeswoman said.
She said an 18-year-old Warana man was given three traffic infringement notices including one for exceeding speed limit in a school zone, careless driving and failing to stop.
The police spokeswoman said officers had reviewed the incident and the officer involved had received “managerial guidance” relating to the matter.
“The Sunshine Coast district take the safety of the public and police officers as a priority,” the spokeswoman said.
Acting Commissioner Shane Chelepy threw his support behind the officer, saying he was obviously frustrated.
“I obviously expect professionalism from the staff. But you know, we get frustrated,” Mr Chelepy said.
“You know that officer works hard on the road every single day trying to keep Queenslanders safe.
“The police are out there every single day dealing with just reckless, stupid behavior on our roads. I’m going to call that out.
“Do I expect more professional behavior than what I saw yesterday? Yes I do. But do I also appreciate that our officers work hard every single day, and do get frustrated? Yes, I do.
“Obviously, we’ll have a chat with the officer, but I commend him for the work he does every single day.”
