The moment brave Queensland police officers rescued a woman from a burning unit has been captured on incredible bodycam footage.
Police had to break their way into a unit after they heard a woman screaming when she was trapped during a fire.
Police and emergency services were called to a Townsville address after reports that a number of units were on fire just after 9pm on Thursday, July 3.
Police found a unit in Percy Street, West End well alight which had spread to a second unit.
The video shows the officers running towards the fire.
As they arrive at the unit they call out: “Police, anyone here make yourself known. Is there someone in there?
“ I just heard someone screaming in here.
“OK stand back, stand back,’’ an officer says as they try to break their way in.
Eventually the 54-year-old West End woman is found.
“I can’t breathe.’’
“Where are you dear?’’ one officer says.
“She’s in here.
“Come here for me this way.”
The woman, was taken out of the burning unit complex and was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
Residents reported five fire units, multiple police, ambulance and Ergon energy vehicles at the scene.
“I’ve never heard so many sirens … sinking feeling,’’ one woman posted.
A number of officers were also treated for smoke inhalation however, no one else was injured.
A crime scene was declared and investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
Police are appealing for anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
