A man’s bizarre encounter with a rare snake while on a walk has left wildlife experts scratching their heads.
The albino Darwin carpet python, popular among reptile enthusiasts for their distinct features, was found on a Bundaberg footpath in its enclosure by a man out for a walk with his dog in Avenell Heights last week.
The man called a snake catcher who passed the animal on to the Department of Environment.
Rangers are now seeking public help to find the snake’s rightful owner.
Senior Wildlife Ranger Amanda Yates said the snake was most likely captive-bred and raised.
“We are trying to determine why the snake, and the enclosure were on the footpath,” Ms Yates said.
“These snakes are not native to Queensland, but they are popular among the reptile trade due to their striking features.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to get in touch with rangers at the department. They can call DETSI on 1300 130 372.
