A motorcyclist who was killed in a crash in Brisbane’s north earlier this month has been identified as a family member of first responders.

Matthew Salter, 25, of Arana Hills died on January 19 after he was thrown off his motorbike when it hit a tree on Bridgeman Road in Bridgeman Downs.

Mr Salter’s friend Aaron Yet Foy said he was from a board family who serve or have served in defence, police, fire, paramedics and the state emergency service.

“The family has expressed immense gratitude for how they’ve been treated throughout this process and understands the challenges our emergency services face daily in serving and helping our community,” he said.

Mr Yet Foy organised a memorial ride in Mr Salter’s memory.

He said his close friend group of around 20 people who called themselves “the good eggs” — a name selected by Mr Salter — will ride from Wellington Point to Mount Coot-Tha from 9am on Saturday.

“He was the big social driver that brought us all together,” Mr Yet Foy said.

“He was someone who embraced life, lived authentically and shared his love for motorcycles and camaraderie with everyone lucky enough to know him.

“This ride isn’t just about honouring him — it’s about coming together as a community, reflecting on the values he stood for and giving back in his name.”

In a statement, the Brisbane motorcycle community said they had taken “a tough hit”, as Mr Salter was their best friend.

“It’s hard to summarise it when Matt is such a great person with so many memories, because there’s so many to cherish,” the statement read.

“He always had a smile and could light up a room and was someone you could turn to if you had issues.

“We all know that Matty loved riding the bike and spending time with his friends, people he would even consider family, so many people have lost a loving, respectful, beautiful soul.

“Riding bikes is how we will remember him everyday. We ride bikes every day for those who no longer can.”

Police continue to investigate the crash and urge anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them.

Mr Yet Foy has called for donations to charity Fortem Australia in the name of Mr Salter.
