Infamous cruise ship crooner Jayden Moorea fights stalking charges

A man who was charged with stalking nine women after a police investigation into the death of his former Gold Coast Titans cheerleader girlfriend may have the stalking charges dropped, if his lawyers have their way.

Stalking charges against infamous former Gold Coast cruise ship singer Jayden Moorea could be dropped if his lawyers have their way.

Moorea, formerly known as Dan Shearin, was charged with stalking nine women after a police investigation into the death of his former Gold Coast Titans cheerleader girlfriend Breeana Robinson who plunged from his 11th floor Southport high-rise balcony in 2013.

The-then 39-year-old Shearin was charged with murder over the 21-year-old’s death after the State Coroner sensationally adjourned a 2017 inquest into her death and ordered police to reinvestigate.

But the charge was dropped by Brisbane Supreme Court last September after prosecutors said there were “no reasonable prospects” of securing a conviction, leaving Ms Robinson’s family devastated.

Moorea had pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to menace and harass after bombarding Ms Robinson with 1439 text messages – the last of which he sent 10 minutes before her death.

During the police investigation, detectives spoke with other women about their interactions with Moorea, leading him to being hit with nine stalking charges in 2019.

Police have alleged that he stalked the women in six Gold Coast suburbs between 1999 and 2014 by allegedly sending them “threatening, abusive and degrading text messages”.

They have also alleged he would often sit outside their house in his car.

The stalking charges were mentioned in Southport Magistrates Court on Friday.

The court heard that defence barrister Angus Edwards, who acted for Moorea on the murder charge, would be making submissions about the stalking charges. The case was adjourned until March 1.

Outside court, Moorea’s lawyer, Chris Hannay, confirmed Mr Edwards would be making “no-case” submissions in relation to most charges against his client “to have the matter finalised”.

After Moreea beat the murder rap, it was revealed he had written a bizarre musical based on the case that described women crying with joy when the lead character, Jamie Broadway, was found not guilty.

The cringe-worthy screenplay, blasted by Ms Robinson’s family as “disgusting”, featured a character named Breeana who died after falling from her boyfriend’s balcony.

Shearin changed his name to Moorea after the French Polynesian island, his favourite cruise ship destination.
