A man charged with the murder of a Gold Coast cheerleader in 2013 is a free man after prosecutors formally dropped proceedings.

Crown Prosecutor Nathan Crane on Wednesday morning told the Brisbane Supreme Court the Director of Public Prosecutions would not proceed with the case against Jayden Moorea, formerly known as Dan Shearin.

The former cruise ship singer had been charged with murdering his 21-year-old Gold Coast Titans cheerleader girlfriend Breeana Robinson. He denied the allegation.

Ms Robinson died after plummeting from the balcony of Moorea’s 11th floor unit on the Gold Coast in January 2013.

Moorea was charged with murder and an offence of damaging evidence by destroying a mobile phone.

Moorea was not in court to see the charges discontinued and was represented by barrister Angus Edwards.

“Nolle prosequi having been entered, the defendant is discharged on both counts on that indictment,” Justice Peter Applegarth said.

In an unrelated matter, Moorea was last year sentenced in the Southport District Court after pleading guilty to two counts of procuring a child to commit an indecent act and three counts of attempting to procure a child to commit an indecent act, all committed in 2022.

In a series of messages, he encouraged a 14-year-old girl to send him sexual images and videos, told her she could start an OnlyFans account and discussed how she could visit him at his house.

He was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment suspended immediately for 12 months with the court taking into account more than 100 days he had already spent on remand.
