A man accused of causing a fuel tanker crash that closed the M1 for 13 hours has learned his fate after appearing in court.

A MAN accused of causing a fuel tanker crash that closed the M1 for 13 hours will be issued with a fine over the incident.
Daniel Ben Hansen appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday for a hearing relating to one count of driving without due care and attention.
Police prosecutor Senior Constable Lewis Butterfield said the hearing would not go ahead and the case would be “finalised in an alternate manner”.
Magistrate Kerry Magee asked if that meant a traffic infringement notice would be issued.
Sen Const Butterfield said “yes”.

It was alleged Hansen was behind the wheel of a Holden Rodeo ute when it clipped a semi-trailer on the M1 at Helensvale, causing it to roll into the path of another vehicle on January 11 last year.
No one was seriously injured but the overturned tanker split fuel into the Southport lanes prompting the motorway to be closed for hours.
The crash led to traffic jams for hours during the Magic Millions weekend.
The matter was adjourned to March 9.
Magistrate Magee said if Hansen had paid the fine by that day he would not need to attend court.
