A crime scene has been declared and authorities are investigating after a blaze ripped through a two-storey home in Brisbane’s southwest where a staircase and roof collapsed.

A crime scene has been declared after a two-storey home has been destroyed where its roof collapsed in a blaze in Brisbane’s southwest.
Eight Queensland Fire Department crews were called to a well involved house fire at Zell St, Riverhills about 1.40pm.
A QFD spokeswoman said crews were dampening down hot spots and the fire was extinguished at around 2.30pm.
A staircase in the home has collapsed and the QFD’s investigation unit has been notified.
Homeowner Ray Lowe said his cat died in the fire.
“No one was there. The dogs were there, but we got all the dogs out,” he said.
“There’s plenty of police and fire investigators down there.”
The roof collapsed as the fire spread, with the windows shattered.
The smell of smoke still prevailed hours after the fire started.
A neighbour said he saw fire rising through the roof.
A Queensland Police spokesman said a crime scene has been declared and investigations into the cause of the fire.
