Scott Morrison has likened the Liberal party to a boat, urging party members to help it pick up speed and warning his Opposition “it’s coming for the Labor Party”.

Scott Morrison has likened the Liberal party to a boat, urging party members to help it pick up speed and warning his Opposition “it’s coming for the Labor Party”.

The Prime Minister’s lengthy speech to the Tasmanian Liberals’ State Council today (SAT) touched on the state’s retail, jobs and wage growth, but did not acknowledge a stoush with his local counterparts over GST.

Mr Morrison repeatedly lashed out at Labor, unions and activist group GetUp and called on Liberal members throughout Australia to help his party gather momentum.

“Every member of the Liberal party has to ask themselves one question between now and the next election: is what you are doing making our boat go faster,” he said.

“That’s what I’ll be focusing on as Prime Minister, that’s what Will is focusing on as Premier, that’s what Richard’s senate team and the candidates we’re running in our seats here will be focused on.

“Each and every member of the Liberal party all around the country, let’s focus on the thing that make that boat go faster because our nation needs the Liberal boat to go faster.

“I tell you what: the boat’s picking up speed. It’s picking up speed and it’s coming for the Labor Party.”

State director Sam McQuestin said Bass, Lyons and Braddon were “very winnable” for the Tasmanian Liberals when voters next go to the polls — all seats held by Labor.

He too hit out at unions’ “rivers of gold”, GetUp and left-wing think tank the Australia Institute.

“The left of politics is desperate and will stop at nothing to deliver Bill Shorten and Labor and the Greens government,” Mr McQuestin said.
