LAUNCESTON police station will see an immediate boost in officer numbers, with seven to be deployed this year in response to recent crime rates.
The Government has today announced how an additional 125 police officers will be distributed across the state over the next three years to 2022.
The Launceston station will receive the biggest boost in numbers overall with 16 additional officers by 2022.
The state’s capital won’t receive any new officers until 2020 when two will join the station. Hobart will receive 10 new officers overall by 2022.
Police Commissioner Darren Hine said there was a “complicated matrix” around allocating officers to different regions based on population growth, crime levels and other factors.

“When you look at Hobart you also need to consider Glenorchy getting five more [officers] this year and Bridgewater five more — which is all part of greater Hobart because the officers move around.
“So over the four years, and including Bellerive in there, greater Hobart is getting 38 to Launceston’s 16.”
Glenorchy and Bridgewater will receive 10 new officers each by 2022.
The North-West will see 10 new officers deployed in Devonport and eight in Burnie in total.
Ulverstone will receive one officer in 2021, while New Norfolk and Sorell receive four each in total.
There will be six new officers dedicated to the Government’s War on Ice across the state.
The state will also receive one new police dog handler.
