ABOUT 80,000 Tasmanian homes will get a $125 cheque from the State Government before Christmas to help with power bills.

THE Tasmanian Government will give pensioners a $125 payment to help with power prices.

Energy Minster Guy Barnett announced the energy bonus payments this morning.

He said the Government would send cheques to 80,000 households before Christmas to help ease cost of living pressures.

The payment has been made possible by a windfall profit from state power retailer Aurora Energy and would come at a cost of $10 million.
