THE State Government will fast track a Destination Action Plan for Bruny Island after residents complained of rubbish and a lack of toilets.
Bruny Island drew 110,000 visitors last year, almost 30 per cent up on 2014.
“This is great for the local economy, investment and jobs, but we understand that a delicate balance is needed to ensure that Bruny remains a sought-after destination,” Premier Will Hodgman said.
OPINION: BEWARE OF LOVING BRUNY TO DEATH
“We have listened to concerns raised by locals and visitors regarding issues such as rubbish and amenities, and as a result we are fast-tracking the development of a Destination Action Plan.”

The $220,000 plan is modelled on one in Victoria.
The Government will implement 32 action plans for key destinations.
“Our regional tourism organisations have been tasked with identifying and prioritising these areas, with the first in each region already under way,” Mr Hodgman said.
Destination Southern Tasmania has started Destination Action Plans in Greater Hobart and Tasman and has now brought forward Bruny’s plan.
The plan is expected to be completed in July.
Destination Southern Tasmania will work with council, industry and locals to identify priorities.
The Federal Government is expected to announce funding today for Bruny Island tourism projects.
