Commenting on Mercury stories is easy but readers have been frustrated by slow publishing times. We’ve listened to those complaints and have moved to fix the backlog.

At the Mercury we have made a commitment to listening to our readers so each month will update you on what we are doing to answer your questions, address complaints and deal with your frustrations.

Our aim is to make sure we keep our loyal readers happy and make consuming our journalism easier and more rewarding.

One frustration coming through in our online surveys has been the time it takes for readers to have their comments published.

We agree that long delays are not acceptable so we have restructured our newsroom so we can moderate comments in a more timely manner. We can’t say it will be perfect but it will be much better. We hope you’ve noticed the difference.

We are also encouraging our reporters to join in the debate, so look out for them in the comments section.
