Electronics and whitegoods are the most complained about industry across NSW, beating out property management and car repairs for the shonky top title according to the latest consumer data.

The Sunday Telegraph can reveal the top 10 most complained about industries to NSW Fair Trading in 2024 based on more than 34,000 gripes were led by issues with the quality and supply of retail goods such as fridges and washing machines, followed by items such as furniture and bedding.

Auto repairs and the sale of new and used cars made up more than one in 10 complaints, while issues relating to real estate and property services including the repair and maintenance of rentals; the conduct of agents during sales; and property management dominated disputes as the government prepares to roll out tougher rental reforms in May.

Fair Trading Minister Anoulack Chanthivong encouraged consumers to know their rights, which could include a repair, replacement or refund if the product or service is of poor quality, not what was advertised, or isn’t delivered within a reasonable time.
