Controversial senator Lidia Thorpe has fired a verbal spray at King Charles III just moments after he concluded an address at Parliament House in Canberra.

The Victorian senator could be heard screaming once the King finished speaking, shouting: “You are not our king, you are not our sovereign.”

“Give us our land rights” and “give us what you stole from us .. our babbies, our people, you destroyed our land,” she continued, screaming, “It’s not your land, you are not our king ... you committed genocide against our people” as His Majesty was escorted from the room.

One MP present said that it was a “disgrace” for her to make it “all about her and nothing to do with her supposed cause”.

King Charles had turned to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and talked quietly on the podium of the Great Hall as security moved to prevent Senator Thorpe approaching the monarch.

When security staff escorted Senator Thorpe out, the royal couple prepared to chat to more people at the event.

Ms Thorpe had earlier turned her back on King Charles during his address to Parliament.

In the morning, Ms Thorpe led a small group of protesters at the barrier of the War Memorial and was spotted tussling with the police security over an hour before King Charles and Queen Camilla were expected to arrive.

The fracas kicked off after the officer forced the crowd – seen holding an Aboriginal flag and signs hitting out at the royal couple – into a set area, with another policeman heard shouting “Arrest her!”
