The owners of a NSW south coast shopping mall have revealed their three year plan to revamp the centre with major renovations and new retailers in a bid to bring the facility to the 21st century.

The Batemans Bay Village Centre first opened in the coastal town of 20,000 in 2004 and, at the time, was owned by Stocklands before it was sold to the Eurobodalla Council in the early 2010s.

Soon after, the shopping centre was sold to JLL Australia – a development firm which owns and operates multiple shopping centres across the country.

The firm has exclusively revealed its plans to this publication, explaining how they are set to revamp the mall by upgrading the interior of the centre, as well as welcoming larger brands.

JLL’s NSW Retail Portfolio Manager, Dion Baker, said the plans had already kicked off.

“This week, we commenced a $1.3m upgrade to the travelator entrance near Aldi,” he said.

“Expected to be completed by December 2024, this project will bring additional natural light, a refreshed garden area.”

Mr Baker said the travelator project was just the beginning of a much larger interior undertaking.

He said the entire floor of the centre would be ripped up and replaced with modern tiles.

The first stage of the $1.5m flooring rollout will coincide with the travelator project, before the rest of the mall’s flooring is completed across three years in stages.

Mr Dion said the mall revamp would also see the existing playground replaced with a larger play area, with community consultation currently underway.

The current tiles will be completely replaced by 2027.

He said the play area would include a new seating area, “offering a family-friendly space for relaxation”.

However, the revamp is not exclusively interior redesigns and renovations, with the firm looking at bringing new retailers to the coastal centre.

Ally Fashion recently moved into the mall, with Mr Baker saying it was the firm’s goal to bring larger retailers to Batemans Bay.

“As part of our leasing repositioning strategy to better meet the needs of our customers, we’ve recently welcomed six new retailers, including Ally Fashion, Se7en Café, Elite Supplements, Kebab King, Creative Brows and Lashes, and a revamped Clyde Computers,” he said.

“Additionally, franchise opportunities are available for Cha Bar, Soul Origin, Boost Juice, Donut King, and Cha Time.

“We are committed to creating a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for many years to come.”

The revamp will conclude in late 2027.
