An off-duty police officer is set to appear in court, after he was busted allegedly drink driving on the Far South Coast.

Just before 7.30pm on Thursday night, police stopped a Holden ute on Kerrisons Lane, Bega, for the purpose of a random breath test.

Police will allege the driver – a 43-year-old man – returned a positive reading.

He was arrested and taken to the Bega Police Station, where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.073 – one and a half times the legal limit.

The man – a senior constable attached to a Southern Region command – was charged with low range drink driving.

His licence was also suspended.

He will now appear before the Bega Local Court on Tuesday, October 29.

NSW Police said the officer’s employment status was under review.
