NSW road deaths: Truck driver, aged in 30s, dies in fiery crash on Golden Highway at Elong Elong
A truck driver, believed to be in his 30s, has died after his B-double crashed into an embankment on NSW’s Central West.
A truck driver has died after his B-double veered off the highway, crashed into an embankment and caught fire in the state’s Central West.
NSW Police in a statement said the single vehicle crash occurred about 2.30pm on Thursday November 27 on the Golden Highway, Elong Elong, 20km west of Dunedoo.
Fire and Rescue NSW and NSW Rural Fire Service crews put out the blaze which had also caused a grass fire.
The driver, aged in his 30s, died at the scene and at the time of writing has not been formally identified.
Police established a crime scene, and investigations are continuing.
As at 11.32pm, The Golden Highway remains closed in both directions between Dunedoo and Ballimore, according to police.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
It was earlier reported that four people may have died in the crash.
In response to further questions sent by The Telegraph to NSW Police late on Thursday night, a spokesperson did not confirm additional fatalities, but said investigations were ongoing.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson earlier told The Daily Telegraph a number of people were unaccounted for after a B-double rolled onto its side before bursting into flames.
The truck is understood to have been carrying soft drinks for supermarkets.
Six fire trucks attended the scene.
The highway is closed between the Castlereagh Highway at Dunedoo and Barbigal Road in Ballimore.
