Critical investigation launched after motorcyclist hits power pole in Cartwright

A 43-year-old man is in critical condition after crashing into a power pole in Cartwright early on Tuesday morning, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances of the incident.

A motorcyclist is fighting for his life after crashing into a power pole in Sydney’s southwest during the early hours of Tuesday morning, triggering a critical incident investigation.

Police were patrolling Mawson Drive in Cartwright shortly before 2am when they noticed a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

Officers activated their warning lights, but the rider continued along Mawson Drive before colliding with a power pole at the intersection of Wianamatta Drive.

The man, 43, was treated at the scene by officers before paramedics arrived and transported him to Liverpool Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A crime scene was established and inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.

A critical incident team from Campbelltown Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The investigation will be subject to an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission.
