A beloved father of three and respected premiership captain tragically died in a buggy crash while playing with his children.
Ryan Christophers, 40, was out with two of his three children on an off-road buggy at his property in Girraween on Monday morning, according to NT Police.
However, about 11am the buggy crashed and emergency services were called to the scene.
NT Police and St John Ambulance units arrived at the property and started CPR on Christophers, however he was announced dead at the scene.
The two children were uninjured and did not require further medical assistance, according to authorities.
In the wake of his shock death, Christophers has been remembered with affection by all those who knew him, particularly at Southern Districts Football Club where he was the Division 2 co-captain.
He, alongside Thomas Harvey, led the Crocs to an epic triple overtime premiership victory over the Nightcliff Spartans to cap off their 2023-24 season.
It capped off three years of steady progress for the side with Christophers in the mix and still one the club remembers fondly.
Club president Kevin Mulvahil said the father of three was a much loved clubman whose presence was always deeply valued.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform our Crocs community of the tragic passing of Ryan Christophers, our Division 2 premiership captain, a much-loved clubman, and a true Croc through and through,” Mr Mulvahil said.
“Ryan – or Chrisso, as he was affectionately known – was more than just a premiership co-captain.
“He was a mentor, a leader, and a mate to many. Always willing to lend a hand, his presence around the club was constant and deeply valued.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his wife Katherine, and to his beautiful children Cruize, Dusty, and Ayla.
“Our thoughts are also with his extended family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
“Ryan’s loss will be felt across our entire football family, we will honour his legacy and the positive impact he had on all of us.”
The community rallied under the post in an outpouring of grief passing their condolences on to his family and sharing their own memories of the footballer.
Mulvahil said further details on memorial arrangements would be shared with the community, while there would be drinks in Christophers’ honour at the Coolalinga Tavern on Friday.
