IMAGES have been released by Tasmania Police as the hunt to find out who hurt little penguins on a Burnie beach last weekend.

Police hope the images, captured by CCTV, will help members of the public, upset by the alleged abuse of the native bird life, identify a group of people who may be able to help police with their investigation.

Members of the public alerted police to the incident on Sunday night — around the time little penguins make their nightly pilgrimage up the beach to their burrows.

Police are particularly interested in finding a young woman they say was carrying a distinctive, brightly-coloured backpack.
