A Tasmanian council approved more than $50m worth of investment this week giving the green light to a 216-lot lifestyle village, new dining and accommodation development at Table Cape and much-needed improvements to a popular beach.
The Waratah-Wynyard Council approved a cafe, tasting bar and seven visitor accommodation units at 472 Tollymore Rd, Table Cape, saying it would add to offerings in what has become a mix of a growing agricultural, residential and tourism zone.
There was some opposition to the development with critics saying it was not consistent with typical BnB's and rental units elsewhere along the road and would increase visitor traffic up till 10pm.
But the council said the area now resembled a “small-scale settlement node” with a mix of residential buildings and visitor accommodation use as well as an established distillery and cellar door.
A redevelopment of the Boat Harbour Beach foreshore will see a new cafe and surf life saving club built along with a kiosk.
The investment, being made by the Boat Harbour Surf Lifesaving Club, will also see road and parking areas reconfigured.
“There are no other food services or indoor recreation/community facilities within
walking distance for the residents of Boat Harbour Beach,” the council said.
The proposed 216-lot Seabrook Lifestyle Estate was also approved in a move the developers say will help ease the local housing shortage and meet demand for such accommodation from an ageing population.
The lifestyle resort will be a gated community complete with sporting facilities for residents including a large clubhouse, indoor heated swimming pool, bowling greens, golf driving nets, pickleball court and putting green
There are also plans for a workshop, communal vegetable gardens, picnic and BBQ facilities,
pocket parks and pedestrian pathways.
