A SMITHTON man has appeared in court on an attempted murder charge but has not yet entered a plea.

Jonathan Anthony Roughley, 26, appeared in the Burnie Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

His lawyer asked for an adjournment so she could get full disclosure from prosecution.

“This is a serious charge and it is in the interest of justice to adjourn proceedings,” she said.

No application for bail was made and Mr Roughley will remain in custody until his next appearance on May 1.

Police allege Mr Roughley inflicted significant wounds on another man with a knife during an alleged altercation in Lialeeta Crescent on March 28.

Police allege the pair are known to each other.
