SCHAPELLE Corby’s siblings have won a legal verdict and damages against book publisher Allen & Unwin and journalist Eamonn Duff.

Mercedes and Michael Corby Jnr sued the publishers of the book Sins of the Father which was written about the Corby family.

Ms Corby said in a statement yesterday that she and her brother had “obtained verdicts and substantial damages awards” against Allen and Unwin. But the amount of damages has not been disclosed.

“This book was riddled with incorrect facts about my family — facts that could have been easily checked but were not,” Ms Corby said.

“Book riddled with incorrect facts about my family” ... a delighted Mercedes Corby has won a legal fight and “substantial damages’ against Allen and Unwin and journalist Eamonn Duff.

The book was published after Mr Corby, the father of Schapelle, Mercedes and Michael, passed away after fighting cancer.

“Had my father been alive, this book would never have been published. There is no legal avenue for the family of a dead person who has been defamed to vindicate their loved-one’s reputation.

“My father was a good man who worked hard in the mines most of his adult life before succumbing to cancer. The allegations made about him in this book are false and were devastating to his family.

“We are fortunate that we could do something about this book — and are happy today that Allen & Unwin and Mr Duff have had to pay for what they said about our family.”
