Liam Brandon Maxwell, accused of killing his flatmate’s dog, fails to show up for court date

A warrant has been issued for a man accused of killing his flatmate’s dog at a Surfers Paradise property after he failed to appear in court.

A WARRANT has been issued for a man accused of killing his flatmate’s dog at a Surfers Paradise property after he failed to appear in court.

Liam Brandon Maxwell did not attend the Southport Magistrates Court on Monday where he was to face the charge of serious animal cruelty.

Magistrate Gary Finger ordered a warrant be issued for his arrest.

It will be alleged Maxwell, 23, killed the Shih tzu, Oliver, in an incident at the property on February 8.

Police arrived at the scene to find the dog already dead.

Outside court Oliver’s owner Chantelle Astin spoke about how much the canine meant to her.

“Oliver was literally my lifeline to be honest,” she said.

“He was my reason for living. Losing him was extremely hard.”

Ms Astin said she found Oliver was therapeutic for her.

“He barked at the door if someone came to the premises but as soon as they were inside he would waggle his little tail,” she said.

“He was welcoming to everyone.”
