If re-elected to government, Anthony Albanese will spend his first day as Prime Minister watching Star Wars.
The Prime Minister has for two days in succession attempted to hose down suggestions of hubris, as polls suggest he is on track for an election win on May 3.
Speaking at a Medicare Urgent Care Clinic in Tasmania, the PM said he would not “take anything for granted”.
“I don’t know what I’ll be doing on May 4th,” he said, before announcing he planned to spend the day watching an original Star Wars film.
“I have a bit of a tradition of watching a Star Wars movie on May the Fourth, because I quite appreciate the sense of history there,” he said.
“That’s all I know about the evening of May the 4th.”
During a media conference that strayed far from his central election pitch, the PM traversed everything from Star Wars to Vegemite on Tuesday, even getting in a plug for his beloved Marrickville.
When asked if he would fight to save an 18-hole golf course at Moore Park, as he did for the Marrickville Golf course, the PM said he wanted to save his local course because it was a “multipurpose facility”.
“Not only do people play golf … (but) Lewis the cavoodle holds his birthday parties there every year, on the first green and fairway.
“I used to, when I was in Marrickville, walk Toto (the dog) there.”
“I’m very pleased that the redistribution has put ‘Royal’ Marrickville back in my hood, because it is an important part of the local community … as for other golf courses, that’s up to local considerations,” he said.
