A four-year-old Tasmanian boy learnt how to call triple-0 less than 24 hours before he would use that knowledge to save the life of his mum, who suffered a seizure and collapsed.

Prospect Vale boy Monty Cocker, 4, has been telling people he is “not a superhero, (just a regular) hero,” ever since, nurse mum Wendy said.

Ms Cocker said she suffered a seizure about 1pm on Saturday, August 27.

“I’m so proud of him, he’s my little hero, he certainly has saved the day,” Ms Cocker said.

She revealed she only taught Monty how to unlock her mobile phone and call triple-0 the day prior, after visiting the Ambulance Tasmania marquee at AgFest.

In audio of the incredible call, Monty told the operator, “Mummy fell over”.

He told the operator he was four, and then warned the operator the family dog always barks at people, but reassured him the dog was friendly.

Ms Cocker said it’s not just the number that children need to know, but also how to access their parents’ mobile phone.

“Old-school phones you just pick up and dial, but mobile phones it’s a bit different, so I taught him how to unlock the phone and he managed to do it,” she said.

Paramedic Danielle Masters said in her almost 15 years in the job, she has never come across such a young boy be so calm under pressure.

“I was really amazed with how he knew that was something he needed to call an ambulance for,” Ms Masters said.

“When we got there he was just so calm, he had followed all the instructions our comms had told him to.”

Ms Masters said when she got home from work, she had an important conversation with her four-year-old son.

“I went home that night and said to him, ‘Do you know how to call an ambulance?’” she said.

Monty was presented a certificate in recognition of his bravery.
