The mum of a Launceston tattoo artist and father of three has shared her unimaginable grief after her son was killed earlier this month when the motorcycle he was riding pillion on crashed into a tow truck towing an excavator.

Newstead man Phillip Maxwell Milburn, 39, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident, which occurred about 4.45pm on January 13 at the intersection of Wellington and High streets at Longford.

Mr Milburn’s mum Tanya Wright said she still struggled talking about her son’s accident a fortnight after the fact.

“He loved his children, his friends, his mother, his sisters Tanisha and Crystal, and his brothers Guy, Troy, James and Wilbur,” Ms Wright said.

“He always thought of other people and would give the shirt off his back.

“He had a lot of friends and was loved by many in the community.”

Mr Milburn, ‘Milzie’ to his friends, was a tattoo artist and father to Brodie, Shanae and Phoebie.

At the time of his death, Tasmania Police said the tow truck was turning from Wellington St into High St when the motorbike, driven by a 53-year-old Longford man in a southerly direction, slammed into its side.

The rider suffered serious injuries and was transported to Launceston General Hospital for treatment.

A 24-year-old male from Youngtown, who was the driver of the truck, suffered no physical injuries as a result of the incident.

Initial investigations suggested speed may have been a factor in the accident.

His funeral will be held on Friday, 2pm at the The Boathouse Launceston, Invermay.

The service will be livestreamed.
