McDonalds wants to open another Launceston site at Mowbray
McDonalds is making sure to have all sides of Launceston covered with a pitch for another restaurant in the city’s suburbs. The details.
Barely two months after getting the OK to build a new restaurant at Prospect, McDonalds has its sights on another Launceston location.
On the other side of town, in the northern suburb of Mowbray, the former textile James Nelson, that was demolished earlier this year, could be home to the chain.
The franchise intends to open 24/7 and estimated about 75 people on site at any one time.
Along with what’s traditionally associated with McDonald’s restaurants, the planning application outlines it will include 32 on-site carparking spaces, along with motorbike and bicycle spaces.
The proposal promotes the development as delivering a new commercial service to the community on a vacant site and improving streetscape interaction through an “activated frontage”.
If sites at Mowbray and Prospect go ahead, Launceston will close to double the number of McDonalds in the area to five in total.
Community consultation for the Mowbray site is open with the Launceston City Council.
