He’s rated as world number one in T20 cricket and he’s on the way to bat for the Hobart Hurricanes

The world’s number one T20 batter is about to finish quarantine and join the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash.

THE Hobart Hurricanes will be boosted by the arrival of superstar England recruit Dawid Malan to the team this weekend after going down to the Adelaide Strikers in Launceston on Tuesday night.

The world’s number one ranked ICC T20I batsman, 33-year-old Malan has almost finished his compulsory two-week quarantine in a Perth hotel.

If he gets the medical all-clear, Malan gets out on Saturday and will join the Hurricanes for training in Brisbane on Sunday and Monday.

Malan will not be available for the Hurricanes’ next match against the Melbourne Renegades on Saturday, but will almost certainly come into the team for the clash with the Heat next week.

Hurricanes coach Adam Griffith said Malan’s stretch in quarantine had gone smoothly.

“He gets out on Saturday and he’s training with us on Sunday and Monday,” Griffith said.

“I spoke to him this week and he’s good – he had just been doing a podcast with someone else who is in quarantine over there.”

Griffith said the Hurricanes would focus on closing out their innings with the bat after failing to build precious runs late against the Strikers.

It cost them a third consecutive win.

“We got ourselves in a position to get mid-160s – and maybe even 170 at one stage – but we didn’t quite finish well enough, and we’d brought on an extra batter so we had the depth.

“We just not we’re happy with the way we finished, and Adelaide bowled well, but we didn’t quite get that kick that we have been in our previous two games.”

Launceston’s drop-in pitch did not to the Hurricanes any favours.

“You never know quite what you are going to get there, and that’s not the ground, that’s with any drop-in [pitch] Griffith said.

“We also didn’t get the start we had hoped for.”
