A Gold Coast man has been arrested by police over an alleged armed home invasion in which a mother was threatened in front of her young child.
Police alleged a man entered a home on Frankland St, Ripley about 8.30am on Tuesday where the mother was held at gunpoint in front of her child.
“He fled shortly afterwards in a stolen red Mazda 3” a Queensland Police Service (QPS) spokesman said in a statement.
“The Mazda 3 was involved in a single-vehicle crash when it hit a pole along Bruce Highway near Mary River Road overpass in Cooroy just before 4pm.
“The driver allegedly left the scene on foot and was taken into custody a short time later.”
It’s alleged a search of the car by police uncovered ammunition and other items.
A 23-year-old Southport man has been charged with enter dwelling with intent, attempted robbery, driving without a licence, driving under the influence, and possessing explosives.
He’ll face court on the Sunshine Coast today.
