A man has been charged after allegedly holding a woman at gunpoint inside her Ipswich home while her nine-year-old child stood beside her.
Police will allege the 23-year-old Southport man attended a Ripley address shortly before 8.30am on Tuesday and threatened the occupants with a handgun after the nine-year-old boy answered the door.
“There was this man at the door. He looked very nice but then he started asking for the car,” the young boy told 7News Brisbane.
CCTV footage has captured the moment the man dressed in black pants and a grey shirt enters the home.
“I stopped at the door and I saw my mother being held at gunpoint. The gun was at her head. I felt very scared,” the boy said.
The boy’s mother told 7News that he threatened her in the hallway of her home and demanded the keys to her car.
“The guy barged through with a gun and threatened me wanting to steal the car,” the mother said.
“I told my son to go behind me then I got him to run down to the other end of the house I was just thinking be as calm as possible. Don’t react, just try to talk him down, and I did.”
It will be further alleged the man fled shortly afterwards in a stolen red Mazda 3.
The Mazda 3 was involved in a single-vehicle crash when it hit a pole along Bruce Highway near Mary River Road overpass in Cooroy just before 4pm.
The driver allegedly fled the scene on foot and was taken into custody a short time later.
