A pair of brothers have violently attacked a third sibling in the Gold Coast’s casino, claiming he had threatened to bash or kill them and their families.

The bad blood blow up sparked a brawl in the venue with multiple people throwing multiple punches, Southport Magistrates Court heard on Friday.

Shannon Craig Lyon, 29, and Brodie John Vernon Lyon, 24, were at the The Star Gold Coast in Broadbeach on December 12 last year when they spotted their brother sitting at a table with strangers.

The pair confronted the third man, with the victim seen pushing back against his brothers, Southport Magistrates Court was told.

The older Lyon then threw a punch at his sibling, which was dodged but sparked a bigger brawl as several others joined the melee.

CCTV footage showed the younger Lyon threw three punches of his own before the fight was ended by security staff.

The court was told the brothers’ victim suffered minor injuries, but it was not clear who did the damage due to the number of people involved.

The pair went to the police of their own accord several months later and admitted to their role in the offending, saying they had no intention of starting a fight when they went to the casino.

Both siblings claimed conflict with their third brother had been building up for nearly a decade, during which their victim had threatened to bash or kill them and their families.

The court heard that the older Lyon remembered telling his victim to “stop talking sh**t”, but recalled little else from the incident.

Duty lawyer Nick Collett said both of his clients had made numerous attempts to reconcile with their brother, but had never received any response.

Neither man had any criminal history.

Both Lyon brothers pleaded guilty to one count of common assault.

They were each placed on a three-month good behaviour bond with a $200 recognisance.

No convictions were recorded.
