A mother and her son have been left homeless after their ‘piece of paradise’ burnt to the ground six days before Christmas.

On Monday morning seven fire crews were called to the scene of a house and grass fire on Currumbin Creek Rd in Currumbin Valley.

Luckily no one was inside the house at the time but Cadelle Hagarty, a friend of the owner, said the woman and her son had been left with nothing.

“Her family home was destroyed by fire leaving her family with nothing but the clothes they were wearing,” she said.

“Christmas is six days away and they have been left with nothing, no home, no food, no tree, no presents, and the list goes on.”

Ms Hagarty said the owner, named Monika, was looking forward to “a nice family Christmas in her house on her little piece of paradise in Currumbin Valley”.

A GoFundMe was created to raise funds for temporary accommodation and food for Monika and her son.

“I’m asking everyone from the bottom of my heart if you can spare a few coins to help a family get through,” Ms Hagarty said.

More than $2,000 was raised within 24 hours of the GoFundMe starting with a goal of $20,000.
