Recreating the image of a city let alone a city post-Pandemic is no easy feat – so let us waste no time in introducing our first nominee for Coast Bulletin Women of the Year by Harvey Norman – Victoria Peterson.
Nominated for being a trailblazer in the tourism sector, the Director of Marketing Communications for The Langham, and mother of six-year old daughter Quinn, has helped spearhead the city on to a new luxury global platform.
Ms Peterson fronted the marketing space of the first new beachfront luxury hotel to hit the Coast as part of The Langham’s pre-opening team in at the tail end of Covid in 2021. Now nearly two years after battling the launch of a hotel in a dire economic market facing supply chain issues and talent shortages – Ms Peterson said the city was making waves in the luxury overseas market thanks to her team and the iconic global brand.
“Through the work we’ve been able to do through The Langham we’ve achieved such high earned media and put a spotlight not just on the hotel and the brand but the city of the Gold Coast,” she said.
“I just got back from Singapore where I was for a luxury trade show and the media were saying they hadn’t really heard of the Gold Coast before.
“But they said now The Langham had given them a reason to go to the city.”
Ms Peterson said that sentiment had been expressed from Sydney, Melbourne and across the world with the Gold Coast now gaining luxury global attention from Harper’s Bazaar, Forbes, Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast.
“It’s incredible for the city as a whole,” she said.
“It’s spearheading change – everyone is seeing the Gold Coast as a city that’s growing up and a travel destination offering something it never had before.”
The hotel was just awarded Queensland Hotel Awards Best Marketed Hotel for Queensland and is now headed into national competition.
Ms Peterson said: “Being there from the beginning from hard hats and hi-vis to now seeing all that hard work pay off – it truly is rewarding.
“The people we get to host as guests, the connections made on a business level and the accolades the hotel is receiving – it’s absolutely to date my favourite role ever.”
As for being nominated in Gold Coast Bulletin Women of the Year by Harvey Norman, Ms Peterson said: “There are so many incredible women in this city that just work so incredibly hard. It’s just fantastic to give them a platform in that aspirational piece and also motivational – sometimes females do get overlooked without quoting all the analytics and data so it’s nice to give that spotlight to them but also give them something to work towards.”
