Mercure Gold Coast Resort will be home to the highest concentration of sequins and hair spray in Australia when the Miss World Australia national finals hit town next month.
The 32 Australian finalists will converge on the Carrara hotel for four days of activities which will eventually see their number whittled down to one – and Miss World Australia will be crowned.
Among those representing for Queensland is Cairns medical student Eliza Dalziel, 22, who has been fundraising for Variety, the Children’s Charity, with a goal to reach $10,000 in donations before the national finals.
Gold Coasters Jasmine Stringer and Gabriella Oxley are also among the finalists.
The last Queensland winner of the national title was a fellow Far North Queenslander, Madeline Cowe fromt Tully, who was crowned in 2016.
Last year’s national title went to Melbourne’s Kristen Wright.
Pageant owner Deborah Miller said the finalists would compete in sporting and talent challenges and also showcase their philanthropic sides.
“This is beauty with a purpose,” she said.
“It is a pageant about contestants finding their purpose through their charitable endeavours.”
The Mercure is hosting the pageant for the first time after its previous partnership with Palazzo Versace ended.
The pageant, which began in 2002, takes place from August 15, with crowning of Miss World Australia to take place on August 18.
The international leg of the pageant is set to be held at an undisclosed locations in 2024.
