A Trinity Beach piano teacher with a passion for sustainable fashion plans to wear her favourite thrift-shop dress at the final round of the Miss Global Australia beauty pageant.
Jade Mancini, 26, was recently selected as a wildcard for the Gold Coast event in April.
Ms Mancini, who first got involved in modelling as a 15-year-old, says she plans to wear a frock by Cairns designer Vivienne Francine which she got at a thrift-shop in Earlville.
“I’ve always liked fashion, sports, exercising and making sure I look presentable for the day,” Ms Mancini said.
She said her modelling career was cut short when her mother Melinda suffered a head injury and she became her full-time carer.
Growing up with a single mother, Ms Mancini said she knew what it was like to struggle financially.
She said she also understood what it felt like to go without while other girls wore designer brands at school.
Now a piano teacher and barista, she wants to encourage young girls not to let their circumstances hold them back.
“No matter your background in life, you don’t have to be rich to get ahead. Just follow your dreams,” Ms Mancini said.
Ms Mancini has chosen to wear a Cairns designer’s dress which she found while thrift shopping in Earlville.
“I picked up a dress by Cairns designer Vivienne Francine. It fit me perfectly so I decided to wear it in the pageant. I’ve found that op shopping, you find more unique pieces,” she said.
Former winner, now owner of Miss Global Australia, Sophia Harris said Jade’s application was picked as part of a wildcard selection.
The Miss Global Australia finals will be hosted by Cocktails Nightclub Surfers Paradise in April.
