A GOLD Coast nurse accused of trying to kill a man she believed raped someone she knew will spend Easter in custody after being denied bail.

Kristy Lee Edwards appeared in Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday facing charges of attempted murder and attempted burglary.

Police allege the 40-year-old went to a Varsity Lakes home about 11pm on March 7 and tried to stab a man through a screen door.

The court was told the Paradise Point mum tore a hole in the screen door and broke a window.

It is alleged she later told police she wanted to kill the man and if released from custody would return to the home.

The court was told the woman went to the home because she believed the man had raped someone she knew.

Police are now investigating the alleged rape.

Magistrate Michelle Dooley denied bail and said she was “left with grave concerns about the circumstances of this offending”.

“None of this makes any sense to me when we talk about a law abiding person who has never been before the courts,” she said.

“I don’t know what is going on there but as a risk assessment point of view I have great concerns.”

Duty lawyer Sarah Jowitt said an assessment has shown Edwards had no signs of a mental illness.

Ms Jowitt said there was no risk of her failing to appear and Edwards was willing to move to country New South Wales if released.

A GOLD Coast nurse allegedly tried to kill a man because she believed he had raped someone she knew, a court was told.

It is alleged Kristy Lee Edwards, 40, went to a Varsity Lakes home about 11pm on March 7 and tried to stab the man through a screen door.

Edwards allegedly told police she “came there to kill the man because she had been told that the man had raped (someone she knew)”.

Her attack allegedly tore a hole in the screen door and broke a window at the home, the court heard.

Edwards, of Paradise Point, applied for bail in the Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday where she is charged with attempted murder and attempted burglary.

Defence lawyer Sarah Jowitt, of Legal Aid Queensland, said Edwards was upset after learning about the alleged rape. “She went to scare the victim,” Ms Jowitt said.

The court was told at the time of the alleged attempted murder the rape allegations hadn’t been reported to police.

Investigations into the alleged rape are now underway.

Ms Jowitt said Edwards, a mother of three, had no criminal history and worked as a nurse with an agency.

Ms Jowitt told the court if released Edwards was willing to move in with her dad in Cootamundra, NSW, 12 hours away from the Gold Coast.

She was also willing to report regularly to police, have no contact with the alleged victim and wear an ankle tracker.

Prosecutor Caitlyn Usher said the alleged incident was quite violent: “To cause that level of damage there would have been significant force behind the actions.”

Ms Usher said the alleged victim’s parents were home and Edwards continued to try to get into the home even after the target had been moved away.

She said Edwards was “kicking and screaming”.

Magistrate Michelle Dooley adjourned the bail application un-til Thursday for more information on Edwards’ mental health. She has spent 25 days in custody.
