Mr Pharr appeared in court via videolink from the Southport watch-house to make an application for bail on Thursday, about 24 hours after he was taken into custody.

Police opposed the application due to footage of his alleged involvement and Mr Pharr’s criminal history, which includes prior convictions for property-related offences.

He was also under a suspended jail sentence at the time of the alleged incident.

The court was told Mr Pharr’s case was likely to proceed to trial, which meant he would likely spend a significant amount of time in custody should his application be denied.

He also indicated that he wanted to be able to live with his partner, who was currently three months pregnant with their child.

Magistrate Dzenita Balic agreed to grant Mr Pharr’s bail based on his limited participation in the alleged events and questions as to whether he knew the car was stolen.

Mr Pharr was released on bail under several strict conditions, including that he report to Logan Central police five times a week and have no contact with his co-accused.

The Woodridge man rallied the support of onlookers as he left the watch-house on Thursday afternoon, with several teenagers and other passers-by joining the man in heckling reporters waiting for comment.

Mr Pharr told journalists to “f**k off” before walking away up Scarborough St and declined to answer any further questions.

He is next due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on December 7.
