Man arrested after random knife attack on Gold Coast

Police have charged a 20-year-old NSW man, after a young woman was allegedly slashed with a knife as she tried to break free of his grasp during a random attack on the southern Gold Coast.

The man has been charged with attempted armed robbery, attempted kidnapping, one count of wounding and possession of a knife in a public place.

He is due to face Southport Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

It's alleged the woman was walking on the beach side of Marine Parade, near Powell Crescent, when a stranger “walked up to the woman and attempted to grab her”.

“The woman resisted at which point she sustained a six centimetre laceration to her left forearm,” a police statement read.

“The man fled the scene.

“The woman was transported to Robina Hospital for treatment to a non-life threatening injury to her forearm.”

Queensland Ambulance Service stated the wounded woman was taken to Robina Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have urged anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area to phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or their local police station.

Investigations in the incident were ongoing.


Stranger slashes woman with knife in alarming random attack

Earlier: Police are investigating after a woman was slashed with a knife by a stranger in a horrific random attack on the southern Gold Coast.

The woman suffered a “slash wound to her arm” during the attack by an “unknown man” on Marine Parade at Kirra about 5.30am on Monday, a Gold Coast police spokeswoman said.

“She has been transported to hospital for treatment to her injury that is not considered life threatening,” she said.

Police officers have been investigating the scene of the attack at Marine Parade this morning.

Queensland Ambulance Service stated the woman of an undisclosed age was taken to Robina Hospital in a stable condition, suffering a “wound to her arm”.
