POLICE allege officers tracking a stolen SUV watched the Honda crash into a pole and median strip before it finally crawled to a stop, allowing police to arrest a group of teenagers who tried to flee.

Gold Coast police were “conducting proactive patrols” on the M1 when they spotted the SUV, allegedly stolen from a Sunnybank Hills address, about 1.45am on Monday.

The vehicle left the M1 at exit 57 “before allegedly crashing into a pole on Hope Island Rd”.

Police believe the SUV then “collided with the median strip on Reserve Rd, leaving debris on the roadway”.

“Police observed the car until it turned into Pandanus Place, where five offenders attempted to run from the scene,” a spokeswoman said.

“All five were taken into custody shortly after without incident.”

The spokeswoman said police monitored but did not attempt to pursue or intercept the Honda.

Three boys aged 15, 16 and 17 have been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man have been “assisting police with their investigations, which are ongoing”.

In a separate incident shortly after, police were called to a single-vehicle rollover on the Gold Coast Highway at Palm Beach.

It’s alleged a man driving the Toyota Corolla which crashed “ran from the scene” and had to be “restrained by a member of the public” until police arrived after they were called about 2.20am.

Police flagged follow-up interactions with the man and said the Toyota had not been reported stolen.

Queensland Ambulance Service stated paramedics took a man aged in his 20s to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, suffering head and neck injuries.

Spike strips used to bring ‘stolen’ cars to halt

September 6: Gold Coast police have charged a number of teenagers, alleging they were responsible for a string of vehicle thefts across the city in recent days.

Police have been investigating the theft of a Mazda 3 from Vivacity Dr, Upper Coomera on Saturday, August 28 and the theft of a Kia Stinger from Flames Tree Crescent, Maudsland on Thursday, September 2.

Officers have also been looking into the theft of a Volkswagen Amarok from Davies St, Pacific Pines on Saturday, September 4.

“These vehicles were observed on a number of occasions travelling around the Gold Coast,” a police spokeswoman said.

Police spotted the VW on Maudsland Road at Maudsland about 4.15pm on Sunday.

A POLAIR helicopter tracked the VW to Logan, where tyre deflation devices were used.

It’s alleged a 13-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy were found and taken into custody.

They have been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and refused bail to face Children’s Court.

Soon after, about 7.30pm on Sunday, the Mazda, Kia and a Volkwagen Tiguan, also suspected to be stolen, were spotted on the M1, with the Kia seen at a service station on Siganto Dr at Helensvale.

“They ran from vehicle and were located by police, with a 13-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl taken into custody,” the spokeswoman said.

The boy and the girl were charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and were due to face Children’s Court.

Meanwhile, the Mazda was tracked to Siganto Dr and a tyre deflation device was used.

“Four youths ran from the vehicle and were quickly apprehended by police nearby,” the spokeswoman said.

Police charged a 15-year-old girl with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and a 15-year-old boy was charged with two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and driving motor vehicle without a license.

A 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were both charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Those four youths were refused bail to appear in Children’s Court.

Dog squad tracks Coast trio who allegedly fled stolen car

August 28: people including two teenagers have been arrested after being tracked by police helicopter and the dog squad across the northern Gold Coast.

Police say a white Audi the three were allegedly driving was stolen from a Broadbeach Waters address at 6.30am on Friday.

Road police spotted the vehicle on the M1 at Coomera and they were then tracked by police helicopter.

They then allegedly abandoned the vehicle at Whitian Dr, Carrara, and fled into nearby bushland off Jadestone Court.

They were finally apprehended by the dog squad.

A 25-year-old Carrara woman has been charged with burglary, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, failure to appear, receiving tainted property and unlawful possession of a weapon.

She will appear in Southport Magistrates Court on August 28.

An 18-year-old Currumbin Waters man and a 17-year-old boy have also been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Both will appear in Southport Magistrates Court later this month.

Another man was also arrested overnight after a car ran into the back of a Coomera home at 1.37am.

The Holden Commodore ran into the back fence of the home off Celestial Way and damaged a brick wall.

A 39-year-old Upper Coomera woman returned a negative breath test at the scene and suffered minor injuries.

Police later arrested a 35-year-old Upper Coomera man.

Investigations are ongoing.
