MOTORISTS faced lengthy delays on the M1 on Monday morning after a truck burst into flames.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) firefighters were called to the M1 at Nerang, just before exit 71, at about 8.30am.
Three firefighting crews arrived at the scene about 8.45am, finding the fire “well involved” when they arrived.
It appeared the fire started in the trailer of the truck, a QFES spokeswoman said.
Traffic was delayed on all southbound lanes as emergency services responded.
Gold Coast police said in a statement that two lanes were impacted.
It’s understood the truck was hauling garlic bread when it somehow caught fire.
Motorists were advised “to use alternate routes where possible”.
It’s believed the driver of the truck managed to exit the vehicle and was not injured.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics assessed one person, of an undisclosed age and gender, but it appeared they had not suffered any injuries.
Traffic had cleared and the motorway returned to normal by lunchtime.
