A GOLD Coast man pushed his partner so hard she spent 10 days in hospital with a ruptured bowel, collapsed lung, two rib fractures and a cut on the back of the head.

She described the ruptured bowel as the most “horrific pain I have ever experienced”.

“It stuffed up my whole digestive system,” she said in a victim impact statement partially read to the Southport District Court.

“I could not get myself to the bathroom and used bedpans for weeks”.

The woman was also left suffering badly with anger and sadness.

“I am very distrusting towards men and I find relationships difficult,” she added.

Her attacker Justin Valle pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court this month to common assault. He was sentenced to 18 months’ prison with immediate release on parole.

Crown prosecutor Matt Hynes told the court the pair were drinking together on March 9 last year when they got into an argument in the bathroom about 2am.

He said the woman scratched Valle in the face when he pushed her.

Mr Hynes said the woman got up and moved towards Valle who pushed her down again. The woman hit her head and it is believed she hit her side on the toilet as she fell.

The court was told Valle left her on the floor and was not aware she was injured until she woke him the next morning.

Mr Hynes said Valle asked the woman not to call triple-0 and fled when she did.

He said the woman had a cut on the back of her head, two rib fractures, a collapsed lung and a ruptured bowel. She was in hospital for 10 days.

Mr Hynes said in the days after the attack Valle sent the woman a text saying the reasons her injuries were so severe was because she dragged him down on top of her.

Defence barrister Damien Gates, instructed by Hannay Lawyers, said Valle had pleaded on the basis he had used too much force in the push.

Mr Gates said the pair drank about five bottles of wine that night.
