A FORMER scaffolder stabbed a man because he thought he was making sexual advances to his housemate while he slept on the couch.

Danny Robert Charlie Brown stabbed the man five times with a knife, wounding his arm, at a Labrador property on February 28 last year.

Brown pleaded guilty in the Southport District Court to unlawful wounding, stealing and fraud.

Judge David Kent sentenced him to two years and four months prison with parole eligibility on June 27.

The 31-year-old has already spent 141 days in custody.

The court was told Brown and his girlfriend were living in the granny flat. A 50-year-old man was living in a house on the same property.

A friend of the housemate was visiting and Brown’s girlfriend claims she saw the friend inappropriately touching the housemate as he slept.

Brown’s girlfriend tried to punch the man and Brown heard the commotion.

A fight broke out and Brown produced a knife.

“The stabbing was performed during a fight where you were stabbing towards the chest area,” Judge Kent said.

“Had you stabbed more forcefully in the chest the consequences would have been much more serious.”

After the stabbing Brown took the man’s bumbag and used his credit cards to buy alcohol at a nearby BWS.

The bumbag was later returned without the man’s credit cards.

The court was told Brown had a drug problem and was hoping to go into a rehabilitation facility when released from custody.
