An empty block of land near one of the Gold Coast’ biggest shopping centres will become a major new $30m fast food hub, with three major franchises set to open new outlets.

Plans have been filed with council for the fast food outlet, which will be built on a 1.14ha site on Coomera’s Foxwell Rd opposite across the road from Westfield’s Coomera Town Centre.

A McDonalds, KFC and Taco Bell restaurants are planned for part of the 227,100sq m site, which is owned by Keylin and Kinstone Group.

Keylin managing director, Louis Cheung, said the application was an important first step in the evolution of the Coomera Town Centre South site.

“Coomera remains one of the fastest growing regions in Australia and we are progressing plans to deliver a true mixed-use community where residential dwellings co-exist alongside lifestyle amenity, and established infrastructure,” he said.

“The fast-food precinct is proposed within the existing centre zoning along Foxwell Road and provides important community infrastructure, not only in terms of job creation, but also the convenience, quality and reliability that comes with leading brands such as McDonald’s, KFC and Taco Bell.”

Mr Cheung said future stages of the master plan are still in the early planning phase.

Kinstone Group director Arthur Liu, said the ultimate goal was to transform the Coomera Town Centre South site into an all-encompassing lifestyle destination that benefits the extended Coomera neighbourhood.

“The Coomera Town Centre South master plan will be delivered in stages over the course of the next decade and extensive engagement is already being undertaken with key stakeholders to ensure the development delivers a visionary destination,” he said.

“The site is ideally located adjacent to Westfield Coomera, Coomera Train Station and bus interchange, and the Pacific Motorway, and close to leading schools, including the new Foxwell State Secondary College

It is the latest in a new crop of fast food outlets which have been built across the city in recent years as the Coast’s population continues to rapidly increase.

Southport’s Ferry Rd in recent years was dubbed “the golden mile” for fast food, after a McDonalds, Hungry Jacks, Taco Bell and KFC all opened within metres of each other.

In 2020, leading Gold Coast developer Potter Projects built a new KFC at West Burleigh.
