Police are warning motorists to expect delays after a two-car crash caused morning mayhem on the M1.

Emergency services were called to the incident on the Pacific Motorway in Yatala at around 6am on Wednesday.

A Gold Coast police spokeswoman said it was understood the two cars had collided near the merging lane on the M1 northbound near exit 38.

“Motorists can expect delays in the area,” the spokeswoman said.

Paramedics were called to the scene and assessed a man in his 50s who had back pain.

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition.

It comes less than 24 hours after motorists were faced with hour-long delays on the M1 due to a truck fire.
