He asked the court to impose a “lengthy period of probation to deal with what are obviously the anger management issues which resulted in this damage”.

Defence lawyer Bettina Webb, of Howden Saggers Lawyers, said Jackson had suffered a breakdown after he lost his children in 2016.

She said following the incident Jackson was admitted to a mental health ward for a number of days.

The court was told Jackson, who is on Centrelink benefits, has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and was undergoing treatment.

Magistrate Kerry Magee noted a recent medical report described Jackson as “cooperative and polite”.

“You had consumed drugs prior to that so the incapacity was contributed to by drug use,” she said.

She sentenced him to 18 months probation.
