A fundraising page for the family of a father and daughter killed in a horror crash in Kingston has passed its original target in just two days.
The GoFundMe page was started on Saturday and revealed the tragedy had left the man’s wife and girl’s mother behind with a newborn baby.
The family’s identity has been kept private.
“I am totally heartbroken for the loss of these two beautiful souls and want to show this beautiful mum that so many people care for her and her little baby,” the page organiser wrote.
“I want us all to come together and give this family as much support as we can.”
The page has a $10,000 target. More than $2000 was donated in the first four hours.
Earlier this week, flowers and a small pink unicorn were attached to the guard rail on Algona Road, near where the 42-year-old Huntingfield man and his two-year-old daughter tragically lost their lives.
The two-vehicle collision on Algona Rd, 900m south of the Fork in the Road roundabout at Kingston, happened at 8.40am on August 13 when a bus and a black sedan collided head-on.
The driver of the white 1998 Hino passenger bus, a 68-year-old-woman from Blackmans Bay, was the sole occupant and was taken to Royal Hobart hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The GoFundMe page organiser said she started the page after many people asked how they could help.
“The family have had many meals delivered and at this stage those will keep them going for sometime,” she wrote.
“The support people have shown is wonderful, but there will come a time that life will ease back to somewhat normality for most and that is when the family will need the help.
“As many of you may know or could imagine, raising a child alone is hard enough, let alone the financial side of it also.
“So this is where this fundraiser will hopefully help this beautiful family.”
Generous donators have so far given $13,487, far surpassing the $10,000 target set by the organiser.
“From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank each and everyone of you for the support that has been shown,” the organiser told The Mercury.
“We are so grateful for the support of so many people. It’s wonderful what we can all do together to help those around us.”
Investigations into the crash are ongoing.
