German tourist allegedly robbed at gunpoint by Bruce Hwy rest stop near Cardwell

An 18-year-old German tourist has been left shaken after they were allegedly robbed at gunpoint on the Bruce Highway. Here’s everything we know.

An 18-year-old German tourist has been left shaken after they were allegedly robbed at gunpoint in Cardwell on Saturday afternoon.

According to police, the alleged armed robbery occurred around 6.35pm on July 26 at a Bruce Hwy rest stop in Cardwell.

It’s alleged three people – a 27-year-old Ayr woman, 26-year-old Rasmussen man, and 17-year-old Rasmussen boy – approached a white Hyundai Accent and demanded the driver handover his keys, wallet and phone.

Police allege one of the trio threatened the young man with a firearm before demanding he exit the vehicle.

The tourist complied and then reported the incident to police.

The stolen Hyundai was seen near Townsville and after a co-ordinated response involving Tactical Crime Squad officers, dog squad and Polair, the three alleged offenders were arrested by 8am Sunday.

All three were charged with two counts of armed robbery in company.

Investigations are ongoing.
