A thief who broke into a pizza shop in Geelong West made away with drills, knives and cash, but not before satisfying his sweet tooth.
Video shows a masked man breaking through the safety glass of Shannon Pizza on Shannon Ave just before midnight last Tuesday.
According to shop owner Anthony Maccora, during his 15-minutes inside the store, the man took a break from stealing valuables to grab a bottle of soft drink – a 1.5l family-sized orange Fanta.
“It was really bizarre,” Mr Maccora said.
“He helped himself to the fridge and got a Fanta.”
Mr Maccora said the man struggled with the cash register before managing to open it, gaining access to the roughly $50 stored inside.
“He had a little sledge hammer and took about two minutes to actually make his way through the glass,” Mr Maccora said.
“Glass was just sprayed everywhere.
“He went straight for the cash register, funny for us to watch because it’s tied down.”
More concerning for the owner, was the fact the man had made away with “about nine knives”.
“They’re quite full on, they’re big knives,” Mr Maccora said.
“It’s quite concerning that they’re out there now.”
Mr Maccora wasn’t tipped off about the break in until just before 6am on Wednesday, when a delivery driver arrived at the store.
“I zoomed down there,” he said.
“I saw all the damage, all the glass, and he’d left the tap running.
“He was trying to splash all the surfaces that he’d touched, then he got the detergent and was spraying it around.”
He said the most valuable thing stolen was a pair of drills valued at more than $100 each, and a day of trade on Wednesday while the glass was repaired.
Mr Maccora immediately reported the incident to police, who arrived quickly before asking nearby businesses for CCTV.
